The New Normal

As we shift to home and work being in one place, our tools must adapt to our needs.

Have you ever wondered why lighting solutions in home work spaces seem to remain poor quality, even with more and more people regularly working in their living space? With ZICK ZACK LIGHT we wanted to create a solution for the new normal – the home office becoming a permanent, mainstream work environment in the 21st century.

Georg Hobelsberger:

“I was looking for a task light for my own studio. As I combine living and working in my studio, I did not want a sterile-looking office light fixture. But, of course, I needed a workplace-style level of light and glare control to be productive. I wanted to combine professional features with aesthetics that fit into my home environment.

During my time in the lighting industry, I realised that since LEDs became popular, products for professional task lighting were never designed to substitute the light source after its lifetime. So, a main driver for the design of the ZICK ZACK LIGHT was also to set up the lighting technology on a standardised LED tube as a basis for a sustainable luminaire. Together with my long-time lighting companion Jan Dinnebier, I developed the concept of a standard light source with integrated gears, ready to connect to power and a folded louver. After further investigation into the materials and folding techniques, reflective thin aluminium strips appeared to be the perfect choice of material. So the symbiosis of sustainability and elegance, realised with a minimum quantity of materials, was born.

ZICK ZACK is now the luminaire that I dreamt of, blending easily into my home environment while providing first-class light intensity, uniformity and glare control. With its lightweight structure and long-lasting approach, Hobelsberger Studios are now able to offer a luminaire with minimal impact on our planet compared to other products of its kind, which was the goal from the beginning.”
